About GRAT
The Global Responses to Asymmetric Threats (GRAT) project is managed by the Irregular Warfare and Conflict Assessment Group (IWCAG) and hosted at the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START) at the University of Maryland. Since its inception IWCAG has included a team of interdisciplinary researchers led by Dr. Elizabeth Radziszewski. Dr. Radziszewski, Associate Research Scientist at START, specializes in insurgencies, international rivalries, and private military and security companies. She is the author of Private Militaries and the Security Industry in Civil Wars: Competition and Market Accountability (Oxford University Press, 2020), Social Networks and Public Support for the European Union (Routledge, 2013), and several peer reviewed articles. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

Dr. Elizabeth Radziszewski, Associate Research Scientist at START
Dr. Radziszewski leads the Irregular Warfare and Conflict Assessment Group (IWCAG). She specializes in insurgencies, international rivalries, and private military and security companies. Dr. Sean Doody, Assistant Research Scientist at START
Dr. Doody specializes in computational sociology, political communication on digital platforms, and online extremist, heterodox, and conspiratorial communities. He earned his Ph.D. in sociology from George Mason University.
Salma Bouziani, Senior Faculty Specialist at START
Ms. Bouziani specializes in a broad range of international security, terrorism, and homeland security related issues. She received her B.A. in business administration from Georgetown University, her M.S. in conflict analysis and resolution from George Mason University, and is a native speaker of Arabic and French.
Madeline Romm, Senior Faculty Specialist at START
Ms. Romm specializes in connecting criminology, the study of terrorism, and climate security and her early criminological work investigated the relationship between gender, age, decision-making, and criminal activity. She received her M.S. is in criminology and criminal justice from the University of Maryland.
